GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY HOME PAGE
(PSY 211, 211H)

Welcome to the course page of General Psychology!  In this course I hope that you find something of interest , and more than that, something that you can use to good benefit in your everyday life.  To that end I have taken some pains to build as multi-faceted and varied a course as I can, especially for those who sign up for General Psychology Honors.  However, in the main course, there will be ample opportunity for small and large group discussion, video processing (both professional and homemade), experimentation and conducting studies, and just active listening to (interacting with) lectures.

It might do us well to think about what kinds of questions we have about behavior, both human and non-human animals, throughout the time that we are engaged in the material of this course.  What I hope to do on a fairly ongoing basis is to build in small-scale studies of the creatures that mean something to us (such as our family and friends, or our pets) and approach such studies from the perspectives and methods of the current school of psychology that we may be studying at that particular time.  I have not done this before on a systematic basis, so we will have to play it by ear:  maybe it will be edifying, maybe it will not!

I am certainly open to trying different things so as to better illuminate the material as the course proceeds.  Let me know in person, via e-mail, or the telephone.  The materials and links below are meant to enhance your involvment in this course and in the discipline of Psychology more generally.  Feel free to browse as much as you desire and download whatever you can use.
