Is personality a real phenomenon or is it
just a figment of our collective imagination? Is it researchable?
Does such a concept, much more the possible phenomenon which it
represents, assist us in doing the work of psychology, whether such
work is focussed on developing our understanding of ourselves, or
alleviating our suffering and increasing our happiness?
These two broad questions - and perhaps others that are more
specifically drawn - will energize our work in personality.
Indeed, one of the more intriguing issues is whether such a
concept and its alledged empirical referent comes to life by virtue of
culture or in spite of it.
How do you understand the term and why does it have this particular understanding?
